While in the area recently, I toured the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
A few takeaways from my visit:
- Located less than 10 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, UNLV embraces its desert location. The campus is walkable and easy to navigate, with native plants throughout the landscaping.
- Students interested in Nursing, Hospitality, and Business will find strong programs in these areas at UNLV.
- I was impressed that two of the major buildings we were able to go into (a rarity on campus tours these days) as well as the Student Plaza are named after prominent women in UNLV history: Carol C Harter (UNLV’s 7th President), Juanita Greer (pioneer of women in the sciences) and Valerie Pida (cheerleader and homecoming queen who battled cancer as a UNLV student).
- The overarching message I got from the Admissions presentation is that UNLV wants students from out-of-state, especially students from Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) states. WUE benefits are up to $13,000/year plus opportunities for additional merit and need-based aid. Here’s more WUE info: https://www.wiche.edu/tuition-savings/wue/
