Tips for Pursuing Community College

California residents are fortunate to have a robust set of community colleges available to them as a pathway to CSU and UC admission. In fact, did you know that nearly 1/3 of all UC students enter the system as transfer students?

This fall, it is expected that more students than ever will choose community college due to the uncertainties of COVID-19. Here are some of my tips for success:

- Plan ahead! Apply to community college in the spring of senior year and start registering for classes. Don't wait until the end of summer as many classes may already be full due to what is expected to be an even larger population of CC students this fall.

- Research your options for transfer. Six of the nine UC campuses participate in the Transfer Admission Guarantee Program. More info in link below.

- Remember that the best path to transfer to a CSU or UC is through a California Community College. Transfers between CSUs and UCs are rare, and should not be planned on.
