BCC at Cal State San Marcos

BCC at a CSU! I recently visited California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) on a gloriously sunny Southern California day.

A few take-aways from my visit:
- This growing campus in North San Diego was built on land that was originally the site of a poultry farm. The campus is the proud home of Kellogg Library, one of the largest libraries in the CSU system and Markstein Hall (named for the family from Markstein Beverage Co), home of the College of Business Administration and unique case-study style classrooms.
- Some interesting stats about CSUSM students: 12% live on campus, 53% are first generation college students, and 1 in 9 students is a veteran.
- The school offers a wide range of support services to students including Cougar Closet, a a place where students can find work attire for interviews, and programs to support migrant students and students who were in foster care.
- To help manage enrollment in the Cal State system, CSUSM prioritizes admission of students living in their local admission area. For San Diego residents, this means students who attend high schools north of Highway 56, with the north cut-off of Temecula. More info here: https://www.csusm.edu/…/h…/impaction/local-service-area.html

CSUSM is a great choice for the student in search of a small campus environment (where they would either commute to school or live in the apartment style residence halls ) with plentiful support services and access to all the resources of a California State university.

The deadline for Fall 2020 admission to Cal State is coming up quickly on November 30. Apply through Cal State Apply: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply
