A recent trip to the East Coast gave me an opportunity to visit six campuses throughout the Northeast. First up: Tufts University.
A few takeaways:
Straddling the border of two towns, Medford and Somerville, MA, Tufts is a private research university located just outside of Boston. Though a medium-sized university (roughly 6,000 undergraduate students), admissions staff and students noted that the campus community functions like a small, liberal arts college with personalized attention and a focus on interdisciplinary studies.
Demonstrated interest is important at Tufts. If this school is on your student’s list, make sure they sign up for their mailing list, attend admissions events online, or if possible, take an in-person campus tour. Admissions officers strongly recommended that students connect with their “territory manager” as this will be the staff member who reads their application.
Long neglected by Boston’s underground transportation (the “T”), a stop just for the university is slated to open in September 2022, making the city of Boston even more accessible. This school is a great choice for a student interested in being adjacent to a big city, especially one teeming with other college students like Boston, while retaining all the benefits of a small, suburban campus.
