Spring break = college visits! As many juniors set out to visit schools on their lists, I toured two campuses in Washington DC. First up: Georgetown University.
A few take-aways:
- Touring this scenic campus overlooking the Potomac River, it’s easy to see how students fall in love with the school. Campus tradition and history reign supreme, with students constantly greeting our tour guide with a hearty “Hoya Saxa” cheer. (Passer-bys also kept saying “Happy Birthday” to our tour guide which I learned was another campus tradition celebrated daily regardless of the tour guide's birthday status.)
- Georgetown uses its own application, not the Common Application. In working with prior applicants, I'd advise budgeting plenty of extra time for completion as the overlap will be minimal with other applications.
- With access to all the incredible resume-building opportunities available in DC, Georgetown seems like a great fit for a student interested in diving into politics/government, international business/affairs/economics, and/or the study of languages. Also a student interested in access to an urban environment, without feeling like they are right in the middle of that city, will enjoy Georgetown’s distinct campus environment.
